Since January 2005, Tek-nology Solutions has implemented a range of solutions for a UK-based European leader of painted plastics and tier-one supplier to the automotive industry who also design, engineer, procure and assemble components. With an annual turnaround of approximately £35m and 300 members of staff, working across several sites within the UK, the company holds a reputation for dependable quality and performance.
Initially tasked with the support of the company’s existing servers, Tek-nology Solutions was also in discussions with the organisation at a business level, assessing their current infrastructure and helping to define their IT strategy. This included plans to invest in branded server hardware to replace the existing, ageing, non-branded servers that Tek-nology Solutions had been asked to manage during the interim. These servers were not built to industry best practice and therefore placed the company in a vulnerable position.
During this interim period, three separate server disasters occurred resulting in business down-time for employees. One of these disasters involved a RAID controller issue that resulted in a failed partition on the company’s email server.
With proven Disaster Recovery skills and expertise, Tek-nology Solutions was able to recover the partition and email promptly. This was achieved without any data loss, restoring stability to the organisation’s operations.
In addition to reviewing the ‘bigger picture’, as part of a strategic IT review, Tek-nology Solutions demonstrated its Disaster Recovery capabilities to resolve the inherent server issues that manifested themselves during the first few months of support.
When setting up a system, the importance of following best practice and ‘planning for failure’ is paramount to ease the recovery in the event of failure. Many organisations that fail to adopt this approach run the risk of not being able to recover their data, resulting in huge implications to their business.
