One Tek-nology Solutions client, a design and manufacturing company, creates point of sale, retail graphics and marketing literature for some of the best leading brands, including national retailers.
The organisation required a home/remote working solution for staff. As part of these considerations, they were keen to review their authentication process, ensuring access to data was secure. Standard authentication generally consists of a static user name and a password, i.e. is the individual who they claim to be? Passwords are often poor and are not frequently changed.
Tek-nology Solutions proposed two factor authentication – an improved means of security, to overcome the inadequacies associated with using a static username and password. Employees are now required to meet two authentication criteria:
1) A username/password combination
2) A one-time password, accessed via a token and valid for no more than 30 seconds, so even if it becomes known, it quickly becomes useless.
Access to the company’s network is now protected by perimeter security comprising of two factor authentication. It is now very simple to disable remote access at a granular level should the need arise; this can be achieved quickly and easily.
